Christie's Ventures Makes First-of-its-Kind Investment in Artsignal to Power AI-Driven Art Intelligence

London/New York — Christie’s Ventures, the venture arm of the world’s leading auction house, has made a strategic investment in Artsignal, the first agentic AI platform built for art and collectibles. This marks the first time an auction house has invested in an art-intelligence technology company, validating Artsignal’s approach to transforming how the art market makes decisions.

Artsignal uses proprietary multi-modal technology to solve long-standing inefficiencies in the $60 billion art market. Unlike traditional platforms that provide raw market data, Artsignal delivers answers: valuation guidance, timing recommendations, and taste-based matching, empowering users from professionals to collectors without requiring deep data expertise.

A new era for collectors

Alongside the funding, Artsignal is announcing the launch of its platform that brings “advisor-grade” insight to the 90% of collectors who do not work with an art advisor. By combining taste-matching, valuation context, and global discovery, Artsignal gives users the same level of intelligence traditionally reserved for those with access to insider networks, across every artist in the world.

“Artsignal is here to change the game for collectors,” said Sam Glatman, Founder & CEO of Artsignal. “Historically, you needed insider data or an advisor to buy confidently. We put advisor-grade intelligence into a simple product that covers every artist, so more collectors can participate with conviction.”

Validating a market shift

For Christie’s, the partnership reflects a strategic recognition that the art market is undergoing rapid transformation:

  • Online art sales reached ~$10.5 billion in 2024 (Art Basel/UBS, 2024), 76% above 2019 levels, representing 18% of the market.
  • Impulse buying has fallen from 10% to 1% between 2023 and 2024 (Art Basel/UBS, 2024), with collectors seeking deeper, data-driven confidence.
  • 83% of wealthy Millennials and Gen Z are art collectors or aspire to be (Bank of America, 2024).

“From early on we were impressed by Artsignal’s ability to simplify the user-experience of navigating the vastness and subjectivity inherent in art market data and to quickly deliver usable, actionable insight,” said Devang Thakkar, Global Head of Christie’s Ventures. “Sam and Ivan have built the premier art-intelligence platform with the right technology and product vision. We’re excited to identify novel use-cases and explore synergies across our portfolio to help on-going development.”
